«Elecampane (Inula helenium) roots. Main activities: expectorant, antibacterial, antispasmodic, bronchial antispasmodic, diaphoretic, diuretic, stomachic.
Therapeutic use: symptomatic treatment of cough, respiratory diseases. The plant is able to calm cough, disinfect the respiratory tract, carry out an effective cholagogue choleretic action and increase diuresis.

Elecampane is reported to possess cholinergic properties that explain its hypotensive action. Useful in the treatment of gout and rheumatic forms. …
The bitter tonic action, while improving digestive processes, exerts an invigorating effect. A normalising action on the menstrual cycle is finally reported, which makes the plant useful in case of amenorrhoea and menstrual irregularities. Also interesting is its oral and topical use in the case of Herpes labiale (cold sores) » [1]. 

«Elecampane. Properties: soothing antiseptic, drying effect on the respiratory tract, expectorant, increases bile secretion, diuretic (it eliminates urea and chloride); sudorific; tonic, appetite and digestion stimulator; bactericidal; vermifuge; sedative; it favours regular periods.
Indications: bronchitis, asthma, whooping cough, pulmonary tuberculosis (helenin prevents the development of Koch bacillus), hepato-biliary diseases, jaundice; haemorrhoids; nephritis, pyelonephritis; anaemia, general fatigue, chlorosis, digestive atony; painful or insufficient periods, white discharges; hypertension, intestinal parasites, diarrhoea; gout » [2].
