Licorvis

«A highly valued and commonly used mechanical laxative and purgative, Senna does not cause constipation in the long run, nor does it affect the normal functions of the digestive tract…. Senna is not only helpful when it is necessary to use a laxative for emptying the bowel, but also in some cases of abdominal congestions, portal stasis, acute or chronic kidney disease, active or passive brain-lung congestions.
To reduce colic symptoms, it is recommended to add carminative herbs, such as anise, fennel etc.. Like other vegetable purgatives, Senna is to be used carefully in intestinal inflammatory and spastic states…, it is non recommended for breastfeeding women as its active ingredients will be lost with milk, to which it confers purgative properties » [1].

«Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra). Main activities: mucus secreting and expectorant; emollient; antiphlogistic and spasmolytic; antiseptic and wound healing. Therapeutic use: forms of catarrh in the upper respiratory tract; gastritis and gastroduodenal ulcers. …The anti-inflammatory action of theglycyrrhetinic acid has been demonstrated in several experimental models»[2].

«The main detoxification pathway (Liver Phase II) is formed by conjugation of toxins with glutathione (a tripeptide composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamic acid and glycine). Glutathione conjugation creates water-soluble mercaptans eliminated through the kidneys. The elimination of fat-soluble compounds, especially of heavy metals such as mercury and lead, depends on the presence of sufficient levels of glutathione, which in turn depends on the presence of sufficient levels of Cysteine ??and Methionine [a basic amino acid that produce Cystine, Cysteine, Taurine and NAC or N-Acetyl-Cysteine, ??which is, in turn, a glutathione precursor; SAMe, or Sulpho-Adenosyl-Methionine, is the active form of Methionine].
Glutathione is also an important anti-oxidant. … Sulfation is the conjugation of toxins with sulphur-containing amino acids [Cystine, Cysteine, Methionine, etc.], very important for the detoxification of various drugs, food additives and, in particular, of toxins derived from the environment and intestinal bacteria » [3].
