GINKGO BILOBA WHOLE EXTRACT

«Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba). Actions: venotonic (reduces capillary permeability), antiedemigenous, antithrombotic (platelet-aggregation inhibitor), activator of peripheral cerebral circulation, antioxidant, antiallergic.
In brain disorders, asthma [preventive action], hand and foot oedema caused by cold, cough, filariasis and age-related vascular disorders.
It can be useful in the prevention of some vascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, and protect the functions of the central nervous system. The antioxidant action extends to the brain, but also to the retina. It can be of great help in macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy [including glaucoma]. The extract of Ginkgo regulates the tone and elasticity of blood vessels, facilitating a better and more efficient circulation. Ginkgo is also known for its effects on cognitive functions (memory, thoughts, etc.). It can improve the performance of cognitive functions in healthy elderly individuals, in patients with senile dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Ginkgo is useful for memory and concentration difficulties, fatigue, headache, tinnitus, confusion, lack of energy, depression, dizziness and decreasing intellectual performance. The extract of Ginkgo could have a primary use in depression in elderly patients. Some studies show that Ginkgo increases serotonin receptors and acts as a MAO [mono-amino-oxidase] inhibitor. In addition, the extract showed positive effects on libido (excitation, erection, lubrication, orgasm, etc.).
As for tinnitus, which is one of the disorders which Ginkgo is often indicated for, the administration of the extract may be beneficial, only in the case of vascular etiology of the disease» [1].
