FIREWEED WHOLE EXTRACT

«Fireweed (Epilobium parviflorum). Main activities: anti-inflammatory, astringent, expectorant. Therapeutic use: prostate adenoma, cough.
Medical use. It is a plant belonging to the Evening Primrose or Onagraceae family and known as Fringed Pink. It is used in traditional medicine to treat prostate adenoma and micturition disorders associated with it. The plant, according to laboratory tests, shows an anti-inflammatory action with a marked reduction in prophlogogen prostaglandins. It has been shown that plant extracts inhibit the in vitro growth of prostatic epithelial cells thereby demonstrating antiproliferative properties. Oenothein B and A (ellagitannin) has also proved the ability to inhibit 5α-reductase and aromatase.
Recent research has finally revealed antiradical (flavonoids) and immunomodulatory properties.
Also reported analgesic and antimicrobial activity: alcoholic extracts inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcu albus, Pseudimonas pyocyanea and Candida albicans.
